Subject:Re: Will GPS ever really replace ADF/DME?

Im hung up because RYN has a departure procedure that involves a climb in a
hold using the RYN NDB as a fix. Its butt-easy using an ADF. Is it going to
be harder using only a GPS? Can I even do it if its not in the database? Can
you add a hold at a waypoint to a flightplan in the 430?

know that the RYN NDB is in the database, but the RYN Obstacle Departure (by
NOTAM, not published as a SID) is not. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Keep the ADF only if you want to listen to Rush Limbaugh and the football
games. Other than that the utility of it is almost zero.

If you can trade in the adf/dme and vfr gps/comm for another garmin 430 then go
for it. When doing the installation get the serializer option so that way the
altitude input on the garmin 430/430 will 10 foot increments rather than 100
foot.

When using a garmin 430/430 combination set the top garmin to NAV page 2
(moving map) with TRK UP, auto zoom on, data fields of BRG, TRK, DIS, GS. On
the bottom garmin 430 use NAV page 1 with data fields of DIS/GS, BRG,TRK,
DTK,VSR.

Some other pages should also be changed such as the FPL page 1, NAV page 4
(nearest VOR), scheduler for message alerting of switch fuel tanks every 30
minutes, etc.
