I have flown for years with a KNS 80 King silver > crown panel and HSI. We installed a complete Garmin > 530/430 panel in our 210 and my instrument flying went down > the drain. ISTM that the solution is to couple the GPS into the HSI. This is certainly doable, as almost all our IFR helicopters are set up that way. A push-push switch selects GPS or VOR for the HSI display. That way you dont have to look at the GPS at all for nav information. A small panel has all the warning lights - waypoint, approach, etc along with the switch, so everything is in the pilots normal field of view. We have one oddball without this, & its a pain to fly even VFR. -- Regards, Stan |
