Hi,

As a student pilot, I took my newly acquired GPSMAP 196 (with the
Atlantic database) on a first flight from EHRD to EHMZ and back.

During flight preparation I found that the VFR reporting points are
not in its Jeppesen database. When checking the approach plates, I
found only IFR approaches, and not a single VFR approach, at least
sofar, in the 196.

So, I went back to the good old Jeppesen FlightStar program to
download the flightplan into the 196. But, of course, I did not
upgrade to an expensive aviation GPS with build-in Jeppesen database
to do just that, and was not very happy.

When asking my instructor about it, he said, that appearently the
Jeppesen IFR info is loaded into the GPSMAP 196, and not the VFR info.

My question is now:
Why is it that in an aviation instrument, that is only to be used
for VFR (according to the sales-info, and also according to the
various attorney screens you have to click away before and during
usage) contains Jeppesen IFR information, and not the VFR stuff
that one would expect?
