Thanks for being strict Steven, you can skip the calls to the FSS, but
would you fly actual instruments out there without at least a flight plan and performing position reports ? Uncontrolled airspace might mean areas of spotty radio coverage, so passing along a position report with a flight plan in the minimum you should do if you have to crash land so SAR will come look after you.
