I know thats a popular theory, even within Boeing, but its certainly not what John Cashman told me. When I talked with him, he was the Director of Flight Crew Operations/Chief Pilot, and he was the first person to fly the 777. John talked about the Boeing flight control philosophy, the use of soft limits, the introduction of feel, and situational awareness. Boeing ramps up control column force as you approach a stall, but you can still stall a 777. Its very difficult to ramp up forces and provide speed stability with a sidestick system. He did not once mention that Boeing chose a yoke because thats what Hart wanted. --Mark Rogers |
