WAAS is a system which enhances GPS, in that it finds the deviation in the GPS signal, and broadcasts that deviation from a set of satellites. GPS w/ WAAS supposedly has a 6 ft accuracy horizontally, and a 10 ft accuracy vertically. With WAAS, the FAA will supposedly certify non-precision approaches using the GPS for altitude input. Honestly, WAAS was a bigger deal when Selective Availability was in place. WAAS is just a mechanism to guarantee that the GPS signal is good enough to get approach capability.
