If Randy did anything really well, it was keeping his name in the press. I agree with you about his abilities in a dog fight. Right place, right time. As proof of this, look at what Robin Olds did in his first flight after he got an F4 with the cannon. They flew a Thud profile that caused the Migs to scramble, then gunned them down when they ran. Clever.
