As far as 5 years ago, Aeroflot began flying brand new Boeings 767, and
since about 1990 were flying Airbus 310s on all of their transcontinental routes. As of sumer 1998 Aeroflot has two brand new 777s. For visual representations of those check out www.airliners.net. Aeroflot is a modern western stanrds airline that is owned in part by Credit Suisse, Citibank and Chase Manhattan, just a few names FYI and 51% by Russian Government. Just to clear this cloud of ignorance, modern Aeroflot is _NOT_ what used to be Soviet Aeroflot, and everything that flies in Russia right now is not Aeroflot, but hundreds of smaller remnants of the old company nicknamed "babyflots". Sure, kicking the ribs of the third-world air transportation gives lotsa credibitlity to this newsgroup, espicially countries who are lucky to have any at all such as ones on african continent, current mostly served by old ex-aeroflot aircraft and crews who are being shot down weekly by the bush rebels. get with the program HECTOP Lhmitchell > I flew Aeroflot about 5 years ago and its the only time I have ever been in > airplane and really worried that we might not get where we were going! > The windows looked like little portholes and the seats were ragged and some > were not even afixed to floor. > The emergency escape consisted of a rope hanging next to one of the windows! > I am not making this up. Needless to say, we got to Moscow and it was a very > memorable trip. > Lisa > PP-ASEL |
