Chris Iriarte >I dono ... I think it sounds like having your priorities in order! > >My wife, even though shes flown all her life with her father, still closes >her eyes when we land. And no, Im not that bad. > >Ive gave up a long time ago trying to make her love aviation like I do. >You either do, or you dont. At least she understands I DO. She knows >theres no cure for THAT! Very true. I am not a pilot, although I did fly a little once. My wife will fly anywhere for a holiday in airliners although it is very difficult to get her to look out of the window. She hated a flight in a Warrior with my son as pilot in South Africa especially the tight turn and sudden turbulence to escape a large black cloud! However a helicopter ride from Las Vegas over Lake Meade and a landing in the bottom of the Canyon had her enthralled and she never stopped looking. She was not the slightest bit nervous! It was worth every $. A wonder how you guys would react to a woman I met the other day when she came to give a talk to my club. She is in her late 40s and has four children. She is either No 1 or No 2 (depending on the day) in womens para-gliding in the UK and is ranked No 8 in the world. She has seen a friend killed in front of her, survived a bad crash and also a canopy collapse over a town followed by a failure of her reserve chute. (She landed in the only tree around.) She is fit. 1.5 hours a day in the gym and a kilometre swim every day as well. She brought all her gear to the talk and could flip the entire 4 ft diameter pack with glider, reserve chute, radio, GPS, camera, barograph etc. on her back effortlessly! She has flown all over the world in some pretty worrying looking terrain. Her children think she is mad (but happy) and her husband will fly para-glider occasionally but only on perfect days. -- Francis E-Mail reply to |
