Subject:Traffic Pattern Altitudes: AOPA vs. A/FD
From:Mark Kuebeler

The AIM recommends a 1000 AGL pattern altitutude "unless established
otherwise." Ive checked out AOPAs airport directory for several of
the airports in my area, and I find it surprising that three of them
are listed as having pattern altitudes of 800 AGL, yet this
information is not stated in the A/FD. Now I was taught the local
TPAs by my instructor, but how else is one supposed to know about
non-standard TPAs at unfamiliar airports if the A/FD doesnt always
have them listed? Who am I supposed to believe, AOPA or the FAA?
