Baton Rouge Metro (home base) is served by air carriers and have the full array of crash/fire/rescue equipment. Indeed, even though I hadnt declared an emergency, the ATC declared an emergency for me (?), alerted the crash trucks, etc. The decision to divert to the grass strip was two-fold: 1. It was closer 2. The closer I got to BRMetro, the more subdivisions/fewer cow pastures there were. |
