Everybody should hear this:
It was my first trip on commercial since 9/11. I flew to Pittsburgh from Chicago and back over weekend to visit my mother. Here is what happened: I sat on window seat in Air Tran. The plane was pretty full. When the plane takeoff, I realized that the weather was going to be clear for the whole trip and I happen to have my sectional charts with me. I decided to pull them out and practice my little navigation. I am a student pilot working on my cross-country. I was able to follow the trip using my sectional. I thought, "boy, this is fun! I should have done this long time ago!" I was busy looking at the map and matching it outside. The crew was serving drinks. A steward approached to me and asked me, "What are you doing? What is this?", pointing to my sectional. She looked nervous. I explained to her about my navigation practice. All of sudden, she pushed the cart all the way to the cockpit ( I was on the last row of old DC-9). That lady disappeared into the cockpit. I started to wonder what was going on and scanned around. I realized that the passengers was looking at me like I am a hi-jacker. I must have made other people nervous. This lady who went into the cockpit came out and stand by the cockpit door. I knew that she was making sure that the cockpit is secure. After a minute or two, she came to my row, talking to a passenger sitting next to me. I was unable to follow the conversation. The passenger ,who was sitting next to me, got up move to some place upfront. Then another passenger came and took a seat next to me. This passenger was huge! I am extremely thin guy! I tried to start the conversation trying to clear some misunderstanding. He was unresponsive. Boy, I was embarrassed! I decided to put away the charts and tried to cover my face. That same steward never move. She was looking at me for the whole trip. So do that huge guy! The worst trip I ever had in my entire flying history! On the trip back, I never touch my sectional. the weather was poor anyway. |
