Assuming theres not a field in front of me that I know so well that I can
be sure itll be flat, have no potholes, no hidden rocks and so on, Ill
take the runway every time. When it comes down to it, you dont really know
that the x-wind is beyond your abilities, as presumably youve never flown
it before. It could die down, it could drop once you get down low, or you
just might find out you can handle it after all. Playing the odds, its got
to be better to be at an airport than in some unknown field.
