Paladino Jr. > New York City Thomas Many airport line people are floored by a tip while others expect if not demand it! Just as in any service, a tip should be for good service. I flew into Mexico a great deal and always made sure to take care of the line people. As it turns out for them it is frequently a career and not just a summer job. As a result I got fantastic service and often ahead of the once in a while visitors. If a line person takes pains to not scratch your aircraft with the fuel nozzle, or does anything extra, of course a tip is in order. A buck or two depending on what they do is reasonable. If you are flying something big that takes extra care or service of course the tip goes up. OTOH, I got Jet-A in my piston helicopter one day simply because the lineman didnt know there was such a thing as a piston engine helicopter! The delay while I was defueled and lines cleaned, test flight, etc, did not warrant a tip! In fact, I raised holy hell with the manager - not the line man who was just a young kid and hadnt been properly trained. Use your own good judgement for the tip, if any, and the amount. The biggest one I ever got as a pilot on a charter was $500 from a regular client. His wife refuses to fly in any general aviation aircraft if I am not in the cockpit! Ol Shy & Bashful |
