350nm is nice distance in a 172. I have flown to Chicago numerous
times--turns a 7hr drive(one or two stops) into a 3 hour trip in a 172. The way home usually includes a fuel stop(headwinds). Those who have made the trip with me get there in less time it takes the airlines to get them there(after all the traffic/getting to the airport and hour early/security.....etc....). Enjoy your trips and I second the advice on plenty of fuel and flight following. I have found that the controllers are more than helpful, and its always nice to know they are there in an emergency.
