"Herb Martin" news:Fy%69.92743$Yd.4234725@twister.austin.rr.com... > He is right in principle. Those two bombs killed far less > Japanese than were BEING killed and WOULD have been > killed to end that war. > > This is just a fact. > Not in dispute at all. The point is, though, that non-combatants were targeted, including children. You decry terrorism as it does not target the military, but even in the west, a lot of our warfighting targets non-military personnel. > Many people do not know that conventional bombing continued > after the second bomb since the Japanese had STILL not > surrendered. > True > More people died in the Tokyo bombing than in either nuclear > attack. > This is true as well, which is why Tokyo was one of the areas that I mentioned. The fact at issue wasnt that nukes were used per se, the point is that civilians were targeted. If targeting non-military personnel is a terrorist action, then my nation and yours committed acts of terrorism, just that it was state sanctioned. Someone once said that the thing that is REALLY the problem with terrorism is not the acts that are conducted, but simply that they are not state sanctioned. > This was in fact the fastest way with the least deaths to end the > war. Which is really not a necessary justification: In war, you > try to keep your soldiers alive. Yep, but within certain ROEs and ROW. -- Dennis Jensen Author of "The Flying Pigs" http://www.ebooks-online.com/ebooks/search.asp NOW ONLINE Please direct all spam to: president@whitehouse.gov vice.president@whitehouse.gov abuse@iprimus.com.au abuse@cia.gov abuse@fbi.gov abuse@asio.gov.au abuse@federalpolice.gov.au libadm@liberal.org.au |
