I bought a jump-start system from Harbor Freight (a mail order tool supply
company) that contains a gel battery. It fits under the back seat of my Skyhawk. It can supply power for my panel if I lose my alternator--my mechanic wired in a circuit-breaker that permits me to feed the entire panel or just the avionics bus from the jump-start system. It could also jump-start my engine if I forget someday to turn off the master. (Havent done that yet, but its nice to know I have a backup.)
