The Garmin GPS/Com is an excellent unit. I have used it. None of the
handhelds work well at transmitting without and external antennae. You can recieve the ATIS from 10 miles out or more. If you intend to use it as a backup to your aircraft radios in the event of an electrical failure, you need an external antennae and a headset adapter. With an outside antennae, all the units work well. With no outside antennae, the ICOM A-22 is the best at transmitting. Note that it has a longer antennae than the others. |
