Yeah, but at least he has visual confirmation of what hes sending,
instead of trusting that the code sent by the transponder matches the
digits on the little windows.

I had that problem once or twice, on rental (ie, poorly maintained)
aircraft in the past, what I dialed wasnt what the xpndr was
sending. Moving the switches back and forth cured the problem though.
