I gotta admit though that I flew a free air 277 about 200 hours without an EGT or CHT. I never could find a satisfactory vibration free mounting. However, I left the probes in place so I could check the temps when needed. I carried the instruments along (in my lap) on test flights and anytime I did any maintenance, changed the prop or whatever. Now I have both all the time on my 447 and at least it provides a little assurance that all is probably OK when I hear a burb or miss. I feel the CHT is a must for fan cooled engines. I need the EGT too myself now that I have an inflight adjustable needle. It keeps me from going the wrong way when adjusting for altitude or temperature. :-) -------------- Daniel Grunloh (grunloh@uiuc.edu) http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~grunloh |
