There have been a few reports of upright engine installations on the
Challenger, but not much is said about them. Im not an expert on it,
but after hearing all the talk back and forth on the subject it became
clear that the problem is that the Challenger is not designed to
handle an upright mount. The reason I see is that the thrust line for
the air flow from the prop to the tail is built in for a engine down
installtion and trying to raise the prop by using the larger redrive
is more than likely the highest you can raise it and still have proper
air flow over the tail.

I know that drag is a big consideration, but like you I see other
ULs with upright engines and wonder why the Challenger doesnt have
one. It doesnt make much sense. It would require new tooling and
design and maybe the factory cant afford it, to make the changes to
update the current model, that is over fifteen years old?
