Daniel you are the right track any EGT indications are better than none.
EGT is telling you what the mixture ratio is at your different RPM power regimes. Everyone knows what happens when two strokes run lean. Never listen to people who say you dont need this or that, or I do this, you could reflect on their advice for 30 seconds or so as you glide engine off to your death. Their talk is cheap.
