You guys are all cowboys eh? Its probably true that having thousands of hours flying ULs can give you the confidence to fly without instruments or even scheduled maintenance However, for what its worth, I feel better with MORE info rather than less. We live in an area where the atmospheric conditions change drastically in a short time and watched as my instructor struggled to keep the 582 in our trainer jetted correctly. In the 701 that I fly there isnt enough performance margin available to fly out of mixture. If the engine is running rich you can usually see it (or smell it) in the run-up but no guarantee that you will see a lean mixture. Maybe its a measure of inexperience, but Id go for the gauge anyway MM BTW Does anyone use those HAC (altitude compensating carbuerettors) that I see advertised in the LEAF catalog? Do they work?
