Carb heat is NOT required in Canada on ultralights (any motorized flying
machine with one or two seats with a maximum registered gross of 1200 pounds and registered as a ul). Aircraft registered as homebuilts must either have carb heat, or a letter from the designer stating that none is required in that particular installation. A friend of mine registered an R912 Pulsar without carb heat after getting such a letter. My own opinion is that carb ice in an R582 is unheard of, except in very specific circumstances. I have witnessed it, and heard of it, only in air temperatures near freezing with very moist air (enough to reduce visibility). IOW, unless you plan to fly when most ultralighters would rather be doing something else, you dont have to worry much about carb ice. toolman41@my-deja.com wrote: > > I have a Rotax 582 and I would like to hear some discussion about the > need for carburetor heat.
