Thats how I attach mine also except I use foam pipe insulation.
It stays there on the bar unless I park at a fly-in or leave the
trike unattended.

I have the well known Avocet which has not been available for
a time while they retool for a new model? I like it except
for one feature. You have to toggle screens to monitor both
rate of climb, and altitude. The big buttons work with gloves.
