I am presently evaluating some changes to the 582 water system and was
wondering if any of you had some thoughts on my ideas. The seals leak water into the oil, the oil gets milky and the water rusts/contaminates the bearings, etc and the wear and tear on the shaft requires a new one. There are expensive too at 100 plus and require pretty much a full teardown to replace the bearings on the shaft. I am considering installing extra seals, double lipped that are 6 mm wide rather than the 8 mm sold by Rotax. Yeh, I know the warantee isnt good after I do this,,,,,,, and also opening the water bleed hole that was myteriously CLOSED on the 582 and even perhaps the latter 532s. I would channel this potential water leak back to the overflow container through a clear plastic tube which would show the amount of water being lost from the sytem. Cooling of the radiator would then suck it back in,,,,,,,, Venting of this water would surely prevent damage to the oil seal/shaft/bearings and save a bunch of bucks in the long run. The repair kit advertised in the magazine is expensive too. I also have heard that the new shafts from Rotax are a harder material. Also, I plan on using the silicate free antifreeze,,,,,,,, -- Mark Smith Tri-State Kite Sales http://www.trikite.com 1121 N Locust St Mt Vernon, IN 47620 mailto:mark@trikite.com |
