This software is a PQA (Palm Query Application) that allows you to access the N-Number database from your palm computer.

It requires a palm computer with wireless support, such as the Palm VIIx.

ForPilots.com supports an advanced n-number lookup form that lets you perform searches by n-number, owner name, city, and other information.

It returns the full information, including owner name, address, manufacturer, engine specifications, etc.

Here's a few possible uses for this software:

  • You spot an unfamiliar plane at an airport and want to know what kind it is. Just type in the tail number and do a lookup!
  • You hear something interesting on the radio and are curious about what type of plane made the call -- you can search for the whole N-number, or just the last few letters.
  • You spot an interesting plane and want to contact the owner about buying (or renting) it.

Although the Palm VIIx handhelds "supposedly" work in flight, we in no way advocate or recommend using this software in flight. If you do so, then it is at your own risk.

ForPilots.com also has a web-based lookup engine at http://www.forpilots.com/database.html.

Installation Instructions

When you download this software, it will be in the PQA format. This format is what the palm desktop application uses to install software to your palm computer. You should be able to select "open this file from it's current location" to get the palm software to fire up. If not, save the file to disk and proceed with the manual instructions.

Manual Installation:

The required file(s) include:

n-number.pqa: PQA file that contains the application

In order to install these files manually, you will have to use the Palm Install Tool (InstApp.Exe).

  1. Use the windows Start Menu and look for a program folder called "Pilot DeskTop", "Palm DeskTop", or "PalmPilot Desktop". In this folder should be a program called the "Install Tool". Run the Install Tool.

If you couldn't find the install tool, then look for the "Palm Desktop" icon on your Windows Desktop. Double click the icon, and find the rectangular Install button on the left side of the window. Click the install button.

  2. Once you have successfully launged the Install Tool, use the <Add> button (in some versions, the <browse> button) to open a dialog to add the files to your palm.
  3. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the software.
  4. Select a total of one file(s):
    • n-number
  5. Click the <Open> button
  6. The install tool will list the eight files in it's main window. Click the <Done> button.
  7. At this point, everything is scheduled to be installed -- you just need to HotSync your palm to install the software.
